Lila combines the traditions of American folk music with the world
music sounds of India, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Lila (pronounced lee-la, Sanskrit for "Divine Play") is:
Deborah Pine (guitar and vocals), Janette Michaels (vocals),
Sean Scanlon (bass), and Clark Jamison (percussion).
Deborah's original compositions feature soaring vocals, powerful
rhythms and spiritual lyrics, creating the sounds of New World Music.

"Dancing to the music of Lila is an uplifting,
and deeply spiritual experience for me. In many ways, it stirs a sense of unity -
not only with fellow dancers, but with the world. Our planet needs more music like this!" - Christine P.
Lila was formed in 1999 as the duo of Deborah and Janette,
with Alison and Clark joining in 2003. Sean took over for Alison when she made a move to Boulder, Colorado.
Lila had the privilege of opening for Judy Collins in
January of 2006, and opened for
internationally acclaimed singer Maura O'Connell when she performed in Lawrence in August, 2004. Lila
has performed on the Homegrown Stage at the Wakarusa festival and for events sponsored by the Lawrence Coalition for Peace & Justice, Solidarity,
Kansas Woman's History Month, Unity, Shining Heart Sufi Community, and the
Kansas State Fiddling & Picking Championship. They have produced three CDs. The full power of their music,
however, should be witnessed at their concerts, with free-form dancers swirling throughout the room.
